3 Hacks for Better Hydration

Staying hydrated is essential to our health, but sipping on plain water can get boring fast, especially when there are flavorful sodas, teas, and fruit juices in competition. So how can we make water fun? We’ve got a few ideas on how to flavor it, mask it, and even eat it without adding extra sugar!

Infuse your H2O.

You’ve likely heard of “infused” water, as it’s become popular, and for a good reason! It’s simple to make at home, and the flavor potential is endless.

Fruits, vegetables, and herbs make the best infused water. Think citrus, berries, melon, cucumber, celery, fennel, basil, and mint! Edible flowers can add an interesting twist too.

Fill a pitcher with water, toss in your favorites, let it sit a few hours, then enjoy! You can choose virtually any fruit, whether citrus, berry, melon, or pome, or vegetables such as celery, cucumber, fennel, or carrots. Herbs, spices, and Some of our favorite combos include blueberry-lemon-mint and strawberry-basil. Sounds refreshing, right? Many grocery stores are also selling infused waters and seltzers – a great option if you enjoy a little fizz!

Look beyond water.

Unsweetened coffees and teas, but you’re drinking mostly water! So whether they’re hot or iced, count them. Just keep in mind that after two cups of joe or five cups of black tea, the diuretic effects of caffeine kick in which may hinder their hydration potential.

Eat your hydration.

Lastly, you can eat your water! Fill up on produce with high water content like watermelon, honeydew, grapefruit, strawberries, cucumber, celery, iceberg lettuce, zucchini, or radishes. When there’s a chill in the air, sip on a warming, low-sodium soup, or make your own broth at home after roasting a chicken.

Water doesn’t have to be boring, and it doesn’t have to be just “water” either. We hope this has opened your eyes to the many simple and delightful ways to stay hydrated.
