Meet Elizabeth Sanz, Software Engineer

“It’s truly a rewarding experience to be part of a team that is working passionately towards building and improving a product that is helping people make healthier choices.”

Elizabeth Sanz is one of Zipongo’s great software engineers. She currently spends most of her time working on the backend. Before joining the Zipongo team, she worked as an Application Engineer at Time Inc., where she learned PeopleCode, a proprietary object oriented language to develop PeopleSoft applications and a web application for the Business Systems team. She also spent several months focusing on web development and building personal projects using the latest tech stacks. Elizabeth graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Economics.

1. Tell us why you joined Zipongo. I have always been interested in learning more about nutrition and health, so naturally, I was drawn to Zipongo for its mission to make eating healthy easy. Though a company’s mission and values are important, they’re not all it takes to make a decision. What really drew me in was the team. During the interview process, from beginning to end, I had the pleasure of meeting a fantastic group of people, all of whom were not only super friendly and approachable, but shared a common interest in Zipongo’s core values. It’s truly a rewarding experience to be part of a team that is working passionately towards building and improving a product that is helping people make healthier choices.

2. What are you most proud of (personal or career-wise)? There are a lot of milestones both big and small that I’m proud of, but I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish any of them without the support of my family every step of the way. One of the biggest milestones and definitely one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make was moving away from home (New Jersey) with my partner and leaving behind my friends and family for the chance to work in San Francisco, the tech hub. It was a risky decision, but fortunately it worked out for the best! Since March 2015, I’ve had the opportunity to network with many great individuals, attend a handful of tech conferences, and best of all, I’ve had the time to self-study web development in-depth for a few weeks straight. In the end, I’m really proud of making the decision to move to jump start my career in Software Engineering.

3. What’s your favorite restaurant in the city? Honestly, I haven’t had the chance to explore many restaurants in the city. Most of the time, I try to cook at home, but when I do go out to eat, I go to the nearest Chipotle or San Francisco Soup Company for their Grilled Chicken Chipotle Salad. One place I have yet to try is Mixt Greens, which seems like a popular choice!

4. Can you share something that ranks high on your bucket list? The first time I ever traveled on a plane was in college for a study abroad program, which opened my eyes to the world beyond America. It was definitely a life changing experience. Since then, I have made the decision to make traveling a priority. There’s so much to see!
