The holidays are a time of joy and reflection, often spent with family, friends and those who are dear to us. They’re also a time for giving back and supporting those in need. We at Zipongo felt the best way we could do this was by helping ensure that those less fortunate than us, could also have healthy food options.
From December 2 to 22, Zipongo participated in Tech Gives Back — a charity campaign that rallies SF Bay Area tech companies to participate in a food or clothing drive, or offer money donations. In the spirit of Zipongo’s mission to help all individuals eat well, we hosted a food drive focused on donating healthier canned and non-perishable food items.
Even though we’re in the business of healthy food, we could all still use a little guidance. So our team created the Zipongo Healthy Food Donation Guide, with some quick tips on how to buy more nutritious foods for donating. We shared this guide with our friends at Tech Gives Back and with all of the companies who participated.
For 20 days, our collection bin supporting the SF Marin Food Bank sat in our office and took in more and more food. Ultimately, more than 50% of our office participated, contributing hundreds of dollars’ worth of non-perishable food — all of which was vetted by Zipongo’s in-house dietitians to ensure that our donations were up to the healthier standards we set for ourselves.
The next time you participate in or host a food drive, or are simply purchasing canned foods for those in need, we hope you’ll take advantage of our Healthy Food Donation Guide. After all, people need to eat every day — not just during the holidays. And everyone deserves healthy and nutritious food.
From the team at Zipongo, may you all have a healthy and happy 2015.
