What is Foodsmart?

Foodsmart connects members with registered dietitians through phone or video calls for simple, affordable nutrition support for their unique health goals. Our dietitians are nutrition experts, licensed to support members with common medical conditions — like obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and heart conditions — with nutrition and lifestyle changes. Foodsmart's platform also provides members with tools for meal planning, shopping on a budget, and food delivery.

What can a dietitian help me with?

Our dietitians can help you with almost anything food and nutrition related. Whether you are trying to manage your weight, save money on groceries, get your kids to eat healthier, a Foodsmart dietitian will have solutions for you. They are also experts in treating chronic conditions with nutrition and can help you prevent and manage conditions like diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome, and hypertension, just to name a few.

Is my dietitian visit covered by insurance?

Foodsmart works with health plans nationwide in order to have dietitian and nutritionist services covered by insurance. Once you schedule your appointment, a member of our team will be in touch to confirm whether your first appointment and subsequent appointments are covered.While visits with a dietitian are often fully or partially covered by your health insurance.

What can I expect during a dietitian visit?

Your dietitian will start your first nutrition coaching call by asking about your goals, eating habits, medical and family history, food preferences, cooking skills, and more, in order to better understand how they can help. From there, you'll create small, achievable goals and work toward them with support from your nutrition coach! Follow-up visits offer a chance to check in on progress, refine your plan, and get help with any challenges you encounter along the way.

How does Foodsmart help me save money?

When you meet with your dietitian, they'll share strategies for eating well on a budget and cooking with the food you already have on hand. In fact, Foodsmart members save an average of 34% per grocery order. Your dietitain can also help you register for SNAP if you're eligible, and show you how to maximize your benefits. Plus, in the FoodsMART food marketplace, you can find affordable recipes for your budget, compare grocery prices, and have food delivered to your door.

How will this program work with my other providers or care management team?

Working with a dietitian is a wonderful addition to any care management team. We'll work to understand your current medications, practices, and goals, then develop a nutrition plan that can fit easily into your routine.
